7-Zip – free file archiver different from competitive solutions, highly compressed files in archives. For example, compared with WinZip archiver 7-zip for the ZIP format gives the compression ratio to 10 percent higher. Able to pack and unpack files with extensions 7z, XZ, TAR, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2. The rest of the files (including RAR, ARJ and others) only unpacks. 7z – proper extension archives. Created by a specially developed algorithm, so packed longer, but has a greater degree of compression (up to 25 percent higher ZIP).
Among the shortcomings of the program may be noted that the logger can not create a multi-volume self-extracting archives, and also makes it impossible to open, view, extract, separate volumes of multivolume archives.
