The VobSub has little use for most users today, mainly because the vast majority of current players already adds subtitles to movies without much complication. It may be more useful for those who are a more advanced user and it uses the plugin in Virtualdub.
However, if you are still using an older version of Windows Media Player that has limitations when displaying subtitles, VobSub is the solution to your problem. But beware, the program is demanding and less syntax error, your subtitle file will be rejected. It even gets to be a failure of the program, it is more an imposition.
Another requirement for everything to work properly is that the movie file and the subtitle are in the same folder and have the same file name before the extension. This rule, though it seems unusual, is currently used by most programs that make the automatic loading of subtitles.
The tools VobSub Configure, Cutter and Joiner are very useful for those who want to set up, divide and merge subtitles. Additionally, the use of SubResync tool to synchronize subtitles with video files, complete the great toolset. The only criticism regarding these tools is that they might well be together in the same application, which would give greater consistency to VobSub, since it is too divided and ends up confusing the user.
